Be Cool And Be Online At The B:Hive In Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn. -- The B:Hive, located at 285 Fairfield Ave. in downtown Bridgeport, is certainly one of the most unique workspaces in Bridgeport, offering the Internet and flat surfaces to those without offices and in need of a place to work that goes beyond the coffee shop.

Marcella Kovac, Luke Scott, Jordan Rabidou, Madeline Rhodes,  Amy Henson and Ben Henson opened B:Hive Bridgeport nearly two years ago. The owners refer to themselves as “The Hexies,” a nod to their six-person collaborative.

The charm of the B:Hive is its eclectic nature. With more people working outside of traditional office spaces and doing a great deal of their work at home, B:Hive offers a snazzy alternative. Yes, people are hard at work banging away on their laptops or meeting with clients, but they can also take a breather with a snack, music or a game of ping pong. And it's all in a cleverly designed space with a shabby chic decor.

“This place is great,” said Ashley Keller, an event planner who spends most of work days at B:Hive. “It’s just a tremendous environment.”

The B:Hive is also expanding into more social events, a move that Ben Henson finds exciting.

“We’re trying to provide some different experiences as we establish our place in the community,” he said. “We want to bring some interesting events not just for the B:hive but for Bridgeport as a whole.”

Nestled onto a block that includes Two Boots, Murphy’s Law, Fruta Juice and The Bijou Theater, B:Hive is part of downtown’s new face that is attracting people to the Park City’s downtown.

One familiar face at the B:Hive is Becca Bryan, who essentially runs the daily operation at the Fairfield Avenue location. She is also a founder of Whisk and Brush, an emerging company that supplies Bridgeporters with new and interesting ideas, many of which involve food. That is one of the reasons she makes the delicious doughnuts that can be found at the B:Hive on Friday mornings.

“We have a lot of ideas about how to make the space more creative for our customers,” she said. “Friday morning doughnuts and coffee are just one of them.”
