The winner selected for the Going for Green 2015 Business is Amanda Smith Caterers. Its entry was selected for use of packaging that is recyclable and oven to table ready, which saves on energy, less use of detergents and water, use of reusable bags and purchase of organic locally farm foods.

In addition, ASC is adding in a composting operation this spring.

Darien Nature Center won the Going For Green 2015 Non-Profit award.

Going for Green 2015 Non-Profit Honorable Mention Awards was given to The Darien Community Association for its Bird Sanctuary and use of organic products in their horticulture efforts, and to the Depot for training its Student Governing Board on environmental safety and the use of green cleaning products and single-stream recycling.

Local businesses and nonprofits were encouraged to enter the competition based on the “Going For Green” pledge.

In addition, the Darien High School graphics design class created posters to be used to promote “Going For Green” in the Darien community. The winning posters will be exhibited at businesses in Darien.

The Going For Green Awards will be given at the chanber's Business After Hours Event on Thursday, April 23, at Barrett Bookstore.
