The new Business Alert System will use the Codered Network to act as an early warning system for businesses if there is suspected fraudulent or other criminal activity taking place around town.

The framework for the system has been put in place through a liaison among the Chamber, the Police Department and the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force.

Sophisticated crimes and scams targeting retail establishments are on the rise, police said, and it is hoped that the alert system will act as a deterrent and prevent victimization through its use.

Chamber members can register for the system beginning May 1 through a special registration announcement sent out by the chamber. Businesses that are not currently members of the Chamber of Commerce are encouraged to submit contact information and phone numbers to jmarron@darienct.gov.

All contact information will be added to the B.A.S. network calling list, and the business will be notified by police in the event of active or potential criminal activity. A special B.A.S. window sticker will be available to chamber members later this spring.

Any questions can be sent to Chamber Executive Director Susan Cator at susan@darienctchamber.com.
