According to a statement from the Chamber, 98 percent of Darien’s shops and restaurants are locally owned.

According to the Chamber, there are numerous benefits to supporting local shops, including:

  • In an increasingly homogenized world, “one-of-a-kind” shops give Darien a distinctive character.
  • Local businesses generously donate to our local nonprofits and schools. Shopping locally helps keep our community strong.
  • Locally owned businesses are the ones that give teens and students their first jobs and internships.
  • Shopping locally uses less gas and is convenient and friendly.

According to the Chamber, many of Darien’s locally owned businesses will be offering specials for shoppers participating in Shop Small Saturday, which is further incentive to "visit a favorite store or discover something new in town.”

Shop Small Saturday is sponsored by American Express, which, according to the Chamber, will be rewarding purchases made with an American Express card at participating merchants through the end of the year.
