DARIEN, Conn. -- Cefaly, the first device of its kind to receive U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for the preventative treatment of migraine headaches, has opened its first U.S. office in Darien.

The new space in Darien will serve as the exclusive distributor of Cefaly in the United States. The devices will ship from a contracted warehouse in Pennsylvania.

“We are excited to be able to bring drug-free relief to patients quicker with best in class safety,” said Dr. Pierre Rigaux, chief executive officer of Cefaly Technology, the Belgian maker of the device and a member of the team of inventors.

“Once we have a patient’s prescription and order, it’s now just a matter of days before they have the device.”

The Cefaly offices are at 50 Old Kings Highway N., Suite 101, Darien. .

Cefaly is the first transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation device specifically authorized for use before the onset of migraine pain. The battery-powered device is worn for 20-minutes a day. It resembles a headband and uses tiny electrical impulses to stimulate the trigeminal centers to reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines.

Since Cefaly received FDA approval in March, the Belgium-based headquarters have been fulfilling orders and shipping to the United States. As of now, patients will continue to place their orders online at www.Cefaly.us however fulfillment will now come from US office and warehouse for faster service.

“We are very pleased to have our Connecticut office join our team and help get Cefaly to where it needs to go," said Rigaux. “Cefaly is at the forefront of migraine health. The new office and contracted warehouse is a big win for patients seeking relief as soon as possible.”

Cefaly costs $349 plus $15 for shipping and handling. The electrodes needed to operate the device cost $25 for a set of three. Each electrode will last for up to 20 uses. There is a 60-day money back guarantee. A medical prescription is needed to purchase the device, available at www.Cefaly.us .
