WESTPORT, Conn. -- Fred, a contemporary women's boutique, has opened its second location in Westport.
This one, however, has a coffee bar and play area so youngsters can be entertained with crayons and toys while patrons dine on light bites and caffeine between trying on clothes. The new shop is called Fred Sip and Shop and it opened Thursday, April 13.
The store, which has been in Old Greenwich since October 2009, is the mastermind of Fairfield County residents Kelley Frey and Shereen Koshnoodi.
Shoppers will find familiar lines such as Rebecca Taylor, Shoshanna, AG, and James Perse, as well as newer, lesser known labels such as Lola, AMO, Prose & Poetry, Misa and more. According to the owners, the variety of lines will allow Fred to stock everything from jeans and tees to dressier attire suitable for work, play, and special events.
Fred Sip and Shop is currently open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday however, employees are happy to come in before and after hours by appointment, as well as host a Girl's Night Out and/or a community fundraiser.
For those wondering how a woman's clothing store got a man's name: It came from Frey's husband, Brad, a Westport native who used to ask their then two-year-old daughter, "Are you ready, Fred?" whenever they were going out. The nickname stuck, giving the store its moniker.
Fred Sip and Shop is at 30 Post Road East, 203-349-5167.
