Shoppers, Families Flock To Darien Sidewalk Sales

DARIEN, Conn. – Shoppers and their families swarmed downtown Darien on Friday to hunt for bargains and enjoy fun activities, food and music at the annual Darien Sidewalk Sales & Family Fun Days.

The rain or shine event has been a tradition in Darien for more than 30 years, and for 2013, more than two dozen local merchants are participating. The event began Thursday and runs through Saturday during business hours.

Tents and tables carrying all manner of items are set up along the Post Road, Noroton Avenue and the Goodwives Shopping Center. And children’s play areas are also scattered around, and on Friday and Saturday the teen center, The Depot, will host face painting.

On Saturday, Day Street will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow for the set-up of large inflatable children's entertainment and additional vendors.

The title sponsor for the sidewalk sales is First County Bank, and elite sponsors are Darien Rowayton Bank and Tibbetts Keating & Butler LLC.
