On Thursday, a ribbon-cutting was held to officially launch the new store, which has expanded from its open kiosk location to an enclosed-glass store that was built out from the previous kiosk.

"We're glad to continue to be in Stamford mall," Regional Vice President Christine Berberich said. "We have been here for a very long time, and we have been wanting to expand for a very long time.

"So the opportunity came and we took it and now we have a much bigger store."

The store has quadrupled in size from about 600 square feet to the new 2,400-square-foot store, said Mike Murphy, a spokesman for the company. It is Verizon Wireless's fourth Smart Store in Connecticut, joining ones in Trumbull, Wallingford and Enfield, Murphy said.

Verizon Wireless has grown from just selling cellphones, tablets and devices to offering a wide variety of technology and services for its customers, he said.

"Today, you look at a store like this and we have really modeled it around a customer's lifestyle," Murphy said. "This store is a reaction to the way in which customers are using technology in their everyday lives."

The expanded store has five interactive "Lifestyle Zones:" Get Fit, Amplify It, Have Fun, Home, and On The Go and Anywhere Business that focuses on sports and fitness technology: music: smart toys, games and gaming; and business.

"A typical Verizon Wireless store you probably wouldn't see an accessory wall that size, but the size and scale of a store like this gives you the ability to really showcase a lot of products," Murphy said.

The store can also schedule wireless workshops for people to learn more about their products and see what additional products or services they may need or want, he said.

Stamford Mayor David Martin and  Jack Condlin, president and chief executive officer of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the expanded store to the city.

Verizon Wireless also contributed $10,000 to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, as part of Verizon Wireless' HopeLine Program, for the grand opening, Berberich said.
