Family Enjoys Waveny Park Before Irene Arrives

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Even as so many people in New Canaan were filling shopping carts and car trunks with water and supplies, Eric Simon decided to enjoy one of the last days of calm before Hurricane Irene arrives.

Simon spent part of his Friday afternoon in Waveny Park, relaxing in the shade underneath a tree with his 9-month-old twins, Colin and Grace. “I figured this is one day I get to get outside before we’re cooped indoors,” said Simon, 43, who lived in South Norwalk for about 10 years before moving north. “This is such a nice park.”

Simon says he expects he’ll have to go shopping for some supplies before Irene makes her way to Connecticut. Hearing about how big the storm is supposed to be and how many people are buying supplies has him slightly worried. “This one has me a little more nervous,” he said. “I really hope it’s nothing.”

Colin and Grace were oblivious to the whole thing, happy to spend a day with dad and smiling a bit with the occasional breeze.
