The TCD is holding its third annual photo contest, “Celebration of Trees,” with a complimentary cocktail reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Darien Nature Center.
Artworks by Carol Barr Matton, Donna Collins, Mary Morant, Lisa Thoren and Meg Tweedy will be available for bidding at the reception, which is open to the public. Residents or those who work in Darien wishing to enter the photo contest must submit entries between Thursday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Darien Nature Center, 120 Brookside Road, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Photos of Darien trees taken within the past two years may be submitted to the contest. Photos may be in black and white or color, and must be 8-by-10 inches. The registration fee is $15 for adults and $10 for students, with a limit of three entries per person and one per category. Each entry requires its own form.
All entries will be matted and displayed for the reception and will remain up for viewing until April 10. Prizes will be awarded in several categories: adults; elementary, middle and high school students; color and black-and-white photography; landscapes; winter scenes; fall foliage; silhouettes; spring flowering trees; flora and fauna; and images of bark. New this year is a category for digitally enhanced images.
