A licensed clinical psychologist, Turkle has been studying digital culture for more than 30 years. She is the Abby Rockefeller Mauzé Professor of Social Studies of Science and Technology at MIT.

In her new book, Turkle explores how we often find ways to avoid fact-to-face interaction in favor of an e-mail or text. But she has good news.

Based on five years of research and interviews in homes, schools and workplaces, she thinks we have come to a better understanding of the role of technology in our lives. Now is the time to re-establish personal connection, she says.

Turkle will sign copies of "Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age." Books purchased at the event will have a 15 percent discount.

Tickets cost $10 per person, or $5 for Darien Community Association members. For more details or to make reservations, visit here, send an e-mail to info@dariendca.org, or call (203) 655-9050.

This event is sponsored in conjunction with Barrett Bookstore and the Darien Foundation for Technology and Community. Tickets also are available at Barrett Bookstore. Refreshments will be served.
