Sulzer will talk about “The Voice at the Door” in the library's Louise Parker Berry Community Room. The marks the culmination of 40 years of reading, living with, and cherishing the poetry of Emily Dickinson.
The novel fictionalizes Dickinson's meeting with Philadelphia pastor Charles Wadsworth. Sulzer weaves Dickinson's letters and poems into a tapestry of intellectual and spiritual communion.
The novel covers the three mysteries of Dickinson's life: her agonized poetry of the early 1860s, her partial blindness from 1863 to 1865, and her eventual withdrawal from the world.
Sulzer also wrote “Nantucket Daybreak” and a memoir, “Mom Comes Home.”
He's also worked on 'sonic IDs' for various National Public Radio shows, including “This American Life.”
