For its sole annual fundraiser, the Darien Arts Center is hosting the popular performance show in June, and it is seeking residents with talent to audition. In addition to residents, people who attend school in Darien, work in town, take lessons in town or are a former resident are allowed to audition.
Participants must be 10 years old or older. The final show is scheduled for June 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Darien High School, in front of a live audience. But to get to the finals on that night, participants must audition on June 1-2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the high school auditorium. To be eligible for an audition spot, participants must register online at Arts.Darien.org, no later than May 23.
Carole Claps, a long-time Darien resident who has directed, produced and performed throughout Fairfield County, will direct the show, and Chris Coogan, an entertainer, composer and teacher will handle musical direction.
Local sponsors for the event include Baywater Properties; Bank of America; Grove Street Plaza; Halstead Property; Nielsen’s; Mercedes-Benz of Greenwich; David M. Osherow, D.D.S.; Palmer’s Market; SBD Kitchens, LLC; and Andrew Stefanou Salon & Spa.
The participants will be competing for cash prizes of $1,500 for the winner, $750 for second place and $500 for third.
Tickets for the June 29 finals are $35 for adults and $20 for students and children. Premium seat tickets are $125 and include access to a pre-show reception. Family sponsorship opportunities can be purchased for a total of $500, which includes tickets for two adults and three children and access to the reception. Tickets can be purchased online at the arts center’s website.
