Erin, the 12-year-old daughter of Dawn and Pat Edgar, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in June 2013. Arthritis affects one in five adults (50 million) and 300,000 children. Two-thirds of adults with arthritis are under the age of 65.
When Erin was diagnosed last year, she was in incredible pain, barely able to make it down the stairs in the morning and "was melting away in front of our eyes,'' according to a letter sent to friends. "Today with the help of the Arthritis Foundation, her doctors and the medication she is on, Erin has been able to return to the dance school that she loves as well as fall softball,'' the letter said.
Erin will speak at the Arthritis Foundation Gala on Nov. 13 in New York City. Her goal at the gala and the run is letting others know they are not alone and that with the Arthritis Foundation's help and a positive attitude they can win the fight against this illness.
