Darien Historical Society's "Signed by the President," presents over 40 documents signed by nearly 30 of the presidents of the United States.

The event will take place on Dec. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. For member, the cost is $20 per person. There is a $5 surcharge for nonmembers.

These autographs range from souvenirs for well-wishers and signatures on official documents, to notes of a frivolous nature, to messages about weighty matters of war and state. Some were written or signed before the president held office, some while he held office, and some after he had held office.

The variety of presidential autographs available to the collector truly appears to be infinite, but they all have this in common: they all have been touched by the hand of a president of the United States.
