Quilt expert Sue Reich will lead a seminar-like session in which nearly 100 quilts will be viewed for study and discussion, on a one-by-one basis. These quilts will include Reich’s special quilts and quilts from the Darien Historical Society.
Attendees are invited to bring their quilts in for viewing and discussion as well. Several of the attendees who are coming to this event are among New England’s most highly respected quilt curators/experts who will add their expertise to these discussions.
The day’s event is designed to be an educational process and an interactive sharing of knowledge among all of the participants; photography of the quilts is encouraged.
A limited number of slots is still available to attend this special workshop. An RSVP to jgault@darienhistorical.org is required to reserve your place at this event.
The cost of this workshop is $50 per person and will include coffee and sweets in the morning. Participants will dine on their own during the lunch break.
All proceeds from this event will jointly benefit the Darien Historical Society and the American Quilt Study Group. While it is officially spring, the snow date for the event is Sunday (check darienhistorical.org for any weather postponement).
Reich is a member of the Professional Association of Appraisers – Quilted Textiles, which was established in 1992 to promote, guide and test AQS Certified Appraisers on their knowledge of fabrics, dates, construction techniques, the ability to recognize patterns and regional influences, and on their awareness of values of quilts and related textiles in their geographic area.
Reich has authored two books: "Quilting News of Yesteryear: One Thousand Pieces and Counting" and "Quilting News of Yesteryear: Crazy as a Bed-Quilt." She has co-authored "Quilts and Quiltmakers Covering Connecticut." She has been guest curator at the New England Quilt Museum, the Museum of the American Quilter, the Litchfield Historical Society, the Mattatuck Museum and the Gunn Museum.
