DARIEN, Conn. -- The League of Women Voters of Darien will kick off the 2015 -16 season on Thursday, Sept. 17, with a program called “ Messages that Work: Tips and Tales from the White House to the Board Room."
The program will feature Katie Burke, executive in residence and a professor of communications at the Sacred Heart University School of Communications and Media Studies in Fairfield.
The event will take place at the Country Club of Darien and will begin at 11 a.m. with high tea, including scones, sandwiches, salads and sweets.
Burke is one of the country's leading political and corporate communications strategists, with nearly two decades of experience at the highest levels of government and business. She was previously global chair of public affairs for Edelman, the world’s largest public relations firm. During her six years at Edelman, Burke also served as global chief of staff, managing key elements of the firm's strategy and operations.
After leaving Edelman, Burke was employed by Nielsen, a leading global institution measuring consumer behavior, where she managed all aspects of global communications, marketing, public affairs and thought leadership.
Previously, she served as communications director for the Rudy Giuliani presidential campaign and held the same position for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s re-election campaign in California.
