The art includes marine and landscapes, painted by Ryan, a Greenwich native. He spent 20 years working as a surveyor and map-maker but has returned to being an artist. He studied painting at University of Connecticut’s School of Fine Arts.

He has earned a number of awards, including Best in Show in the 2011 Mavis Fenner Memorial Juried Exhibition at the Rowayton Arts Center and the Fleet Bank Purchase Award. He was given first place acrylic in the 2012 and 2014 Rowayton Arts Center Marine & Coastal Exhibition, and at the Art Society of Old Greenwich.

He also won second place acrylic in the 2014 Art Society of Old Greenwich Open Juried Art Show, the 2012 33rd Community Sponsored Awards Exhibition at the Rowayton Arts Center and oil/acrylic in the 2012 Art Society of Old Greenwich Spring Awakenings Show. He earned honorable mention at the New Canaan Society for the Arts Spectrum 2008 Juried Show.

Ryan was accepted to hold one-person exhibitions by the Greenwich Art Society screening committee, and as a full exhibiting member by the Rowayton Arts Center screening committee. His artistic process involves traveling along Connecticut’s coastline, sketching and photographing his desired subjects and then painting his creations in his studio.

He does a lot of work on scenes from the Greenwich area, but he also enjoys Stonington and Mystic. His work has been shown in galleries in Nantucket, Mass., and Annapolis, Md. He also has works in private collections in Greenwich; San Francisco; Southampton, Mass.; and London.

Paintings in the Geary Gallery exhibition will be available for purchase. The public is welcome to attend, and admission is free. Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
