The event will be at the Darien YMCA with up to 28 teams of four individuals participating.

“If you’ve ever taken a fitness class or even a phys ed class, you’ll have no problem with these events," said Jess Van Sciver, Darien YMCA health and fitness director. "We designed the seven fitness challenge events to be a workout while also being a lot of fun.”

The seven events each will last 15 minutes with a short transition period in between:

  • Spin Your Heart Out – A biking event using the Y’s spin bikes.
  • Back to PE Class – Calisthenics, just like PE class.
  • Anger Management 101 – Ball slams and pull-ups to get your aggression out.
  • A Pop, A Walk And a Jump – A mini-obstacle course.
  • # Planking #Plating – Hold a plank and push a plate using core strength.
  • Go Fish – Each team selects members to swim a 200-yard race (eight lengths of the Y’s large pool).
  • Reaching New Heights – Two team members will climb the Y’s rock wall. (The Y will have open hours for all Y Games participants to use the rock wall from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

A more detailed description of these events is available on the Y’s website and in its Wellness Center.

There is a family division and an elite (adult-only) division of competition. The family division can include kids (recommended age 10-14) and adults – one adult 18-plus is required to be on each team. The elite division can include kids age 15-plus through adults, high school sports teams are welcome.
