DARIEN, Conn. -- The Geary Gallery of Darien is presenting “New England Coastlines” featuring the coastal and maritime artwork of New England painter Stephen Knight from July 1-31 at the gallery, 576 Boston Post Road.
Knight was born and educated in London, and has lived in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, France and now the United States, where he has been a citizen since 2004.
After living and painting in five different countries, Knight is now inspired by the scenery of coastal and maritime New England, and particularly Cape Cod, which is his home, according to a press release.
“I need to be at one with my scene to capture on canvas the immediacy of time and place,” he said in a press release. “My paintings are constantly evolving expressions of how I feel about my surroundings and I am fascinated by the effects of light and its role in revealing mood and atmosphere — the solitude of lake, marsh and estuary; the sweep of sea and sky.”
Admission to the showcase is free. The Geary Gallery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. For more information, call (203) 655-6633 or visit www.gearygallery.com.
