The event is one of several the group has scheduled in the coming months.

The holiday party is scheduled for Dec. 18 at the home of Winifred and Tom Lom, according to the statement, which said the Daughters of the American Revolution’s (DAR) Kim Kiner will use the occasion to present a Darien High School senior with the Good Citizen Award.

Also scheduled for the party is a presentation by Good Wife’s River Chapter Regent Katherine Love, who is to conduct a business meeting to update organization members on future local and statewide DAR events.

Veteran’s Chairman Carol Wilder-Tamme is scheduled to collect “comfort items” during the event for veterans at the VA Hospital in West Haven, according to the statement, which said that the items are to be delivered before the holidays.

In other news, the local DAR also will be participating in and promoting the annual Wreaths Across America project, a program through which volunteers coordinate wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and 1,100 additional locations across the country, at sea and abroad.

Several local DAR members have partnered with Darien’s Monuments and Ceremonies Commission and the local VFW Post #6933 to raise money for the wreaths, organizers said, adding that several local businesses and the Darien High School Support Our Soldiers (SOS) student group will also be assisting.

According to the organization, the wreaths are to be laid at noon on Saturday at the Spring Grove Veteran’s Cemetery in Darien. Spring Grove is one of only three official veterans’ cemeteries in Connecticut. The public is invited to attend and participate in this wreath laying.

Other events the group is planning include:

  • The 125th Connecticut DAR Anniversary Gala is scheduled for Feb. 4 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wallingford, according to the statement, which said that President General Ann L. Dillon will be the gala’s guest speaker. All members are urged to attend.
  • The DAR also is planning for its Fifth Grade Essay Contest reception and award ceremony on Feb. 7 at the Parlor of the Noroton Presbyterian Church, according to the statement.

Membership in the DAR is open to all women over the age of 17 who can trace their direct lineage to a patriot who served the cause of American Independence during the Revolutionary War, according to the statement.
