Officers responded to a Madison Street woman’s call that her boyfriend, James Catrillo, “may have been hallucinating,” Carlstadt Police Chief Thomas Nielsen told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
After he told them a unspecified “device” was inside the home, officers searched but didn’t find anything, the chief said.
They did, however, smell the odor of smoked pot, he said.
The woman admitted they’d both smoked pot earlier, Nielsen said, which apparently had a hallucinatory effect on Catrillo.
At one point, the chief said, he “became combative with the officers and had to be physically subdued. He was placed under arrest and placed into a patrol vehicle.
“Once inside the vehicle, he attempted to kick out the driver’s side window in a fit of rage,” Nielsen added.
Given his condition, police and Carlstadt Volunteer Ambulance Corps members took Catrillo to Bergen Regional Medical Center.
He later was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, being under the influence of drugs and criminal intent to commit criminal mischief.
Catrillo, who was scheduled for an Oct. 3 first appearance in Carlstadt Municipal Court, was arrested by Little Ferry police on drug charges in June – and again last month, records show.
