Police Trail Summer St. Bank Robber

Stamford Police are searching for an unidentified bank robber who fled a Summer Street bank with an undisclosed amount of cash this morning. The robbery occurred at TD Bank, 1625 Summer St., at 9:25 a.m..

According to Lt. Jim Matheny, the suspect handed the teller a note demanding money. "He went into the bank and stood in line, then gave the teller a note saying he was armed," said Matheny.  According to an eye witness, a dye pack the teller placed with the money exploded about 15 seconds after the robber took off on foot, heading north on Summer Street, said Matheny.  Police arrived on the scene two minutes after the incident, at 9:27 a.m.. They immediately set up a perimeter at Third, Fourth, Fifth, Summer and Bedford streets. A dispatched K-9 unit picked up the robber's scent but lost it at Third and Bedford streets, said Matheny.

The sole suspect is a black male about 5' 7" to 5' 9" tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a white hat and dark sunglasses, a white V-neck T-shirt, beige cargo pants and light colored sneakers.

Matheny said the amount of cash taken is undetermined at this time, but estimated at more than $1,000. The bank's recording devices were operating, but so far police have not identified the suspect and are not certain if he has a prior record with the Stamford Police.
