DARIEN, Conn.– Environmental Horticulturist and Daily Voice contributor Kim Eierman will share her knowledge about landscapes as healthy ecosystems at her lecture, The EcoBeneficial Landscape: From Trees to Bees, at the Darien Library on Tuesday, March 7 at 7 p.m.

The talk is free and is co-sponsored by Tree Conservancy of Darien, Darien Land Trust, Darien Nature Center and the Darien Library.

Eierman will explain how even the most beautiful landscapes are not always healthy ecosystems, and that a landscape is more than a combination of trees, shrubs and perennials. Her talk will encompass how landscaping with an ecosystem approach contributes to species diversity, attracting and supporting more birds, butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects. She will explain how the design choices you make as a gardener: the plants you select, and the maintenance practices you use can make a huge difference in creating a beautiful, healthy ecosystem, filled with life.

Eierman is an Environmental Horticulturist specializing in ecological landscapes and native plants. Based in New York, she teaches at the New York Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Native Plant Center in New York, Rutgers Home Gardeners School and several other institutions.

She is an active speaker nationwide on many ecological landscape topics, presenting for industry conferences, green events, Master Gardener groups, garden clubs, nature centers, Audubon Society chapters, beekeeping groups, and other organizations interested in environmental improvements.  She also provides horticultural consulting to homeowners and commercial clients.

The Darien library is located at 1441 Post Road in Darien. For more information on the lecture, email info@treeconservancyofdarien.org.
