Mather Center Offers Programs For Darien Seniors

Knitting Wednesdays, which begins at 10 a.m., has two new knitting teachers, Pat Broderick and Joanne Amodeo. The class will be held weekly. Bring any work you have started and sit by the fire.

Short Story Discussion Group Thursdays begin at 1 p.m. The short story discussion group reads a balance of contemporary fiction and classic works, featuring critically acclaimed authors such as William Faulkner, Ernest Hemmingway and Mary Alice Monroe. Participants are encouraged to analyze the assigned short stories and come prepared to hear different interpretations from the group. Participants are given each an opportunity to pick a story for the group to read the following week.

Crafts in March will be held Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. The March schedule is packed with beautiful, creative crafts. Craft classes are $4 unless otherwise stated.

  • March 4: Swedish Dyed Easter Eggs with instructor Holly Arato
  • March 11: Silk Tie Dyed Easter Eggs with instructor Holly Arato
  • March 17: Easter Iris Folding Cards with instructor Jo-An Jacobs
  • March 25: Pop-up Greeting Cards ($15) with instructor Cathy Paine

Myths and Facts about Hearing Loss, an RVNA sponsored Lunch and Learn, will be held Monday March 2. The program begins at 11 a.m., and complimentary lunch begins at noon. If you are looking into different hearing loss treatments, it’s vital to be able to separate the hearing loss facts from fiction.

Art Gottlieb offers a historical program on Tuesday, March 3 at 12:30 p.m. This program is part of a series commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War I and will focus on events at home and abroad leading up to America’s decision to enter into the war in 1917.

Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County will sponsor a Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, March 4. A complimentary lunch will begin at noon. An opportunity for a complimentary memory screening will be offered on Friday, March 6. Screenings are 10-15 minutes long, and sign-up is required for both programs.
