Navy Admiral Speaking In Darien About National Security

DARIEN, Conn. -- Rear Admiral Sean Buck will be the keynote speaker at the annual meeting and dinner of The Western Connecticut Council of the Navy League of the United States on Thursday, Feb. 11, at The Waters Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien.

His talk is titled: “Global Trends and Our National Security."

“We are honored to have this high-ranking officer speak at our annual dinner," says Commander Steve Gravereaux, vice president of youth programs at The Western Connecticut Council, which supports the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and U.S. Flag Merchant Marine through a variety of programs and events.

Buck will allow time following his talk for discussion, questions and answers.

“This dinner brings together a number of our members, the units we support and those in the community who might have an interest in the nation’s military, to hear from a high ranking Navy Flag Officer," adds Gravereaux. We would like to include as many in our community as possible, to let them hear Admiral Buck’s thoughts and ask questions."

Currently serving as chief of staff for the Strategic Plans And Policy Directorate on the Joint Staff, Buck has a distinguished career. His operational assignments have included multiple tours flying the P-3 Orion around the world on maritime patrols, and has commanded twice at the flag level.

Buck has also held multiple strategy and policy positions for both the chief of naval operations and for the chairman of he Joint Chiefs Staff. He is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was designated a naval flight officer in 1985.

“This event is open to all community members in Fairfield County who have an interest in our national security, from a Navy as well as a national security standpoint," says Capt. Gerry Tighe, president of The Western Connecticut Council of the Navy League. “We look forward to seeing you there.”

The Navy League’s goal is to support of the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and U.S. Flag Merchant Marine and their missions, and to inform Congress and the American public on the importance of strong sea services.
