DARIEN, Conn. -- State Rep. Terrie Wood, a Republican who represents parts of Darien and Norwalk, will host “Access Healthcare 2013” on Monday, May 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Darien Library's Community Room, 1441 Post Road.
The program will feature panelists Maura Carley, founder of Healthcare Navigation LLC, and Kevin Counihan, CEO of Access Health CT. The panelists will provide an in-depth look at the state’s new health insurance marketplace and how to use it to its optimal value, said a statement. This event is free and open to everyone.
Access Health CT is a new health insurance marketplace being developed by the state of Connecticut to satisfy the requirements of the federal Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare”. Its mission is to increase the number of Connecticut residents who are insured, lower their costs, promote health and eliminate health disparities. Access Health CT is planned to operate at no cost to the state or its taxpayers.
Carley founded Healthcare Navigation, a patient advocacy firm, in 1999 after years of senior management experience in hospital, HMO and physician practice management organizations. She is also a newly appointed member of the Access Health Board of Directors and a longtime Darien resident.
Counihan was chosen by Gov. Dannel Malloy to serve as CEO of Access Health CT. He has worked for 30 years in health care and health insurance, most recently as president of Choice Administrators Exchange Solutions in Orange, Calif., which assists states in creating health exchanges by 2014 as mandated by federal health care reform.
