South African Wine Event In Rowayton Benefits Shakespeare On The Sound

NORWALK, Conn. – In an event to benefit Shakespeare on the Sound, the Wines of South Africa will bring its "From BBQ to Braai" tour to Rowayton on Saturday, June 7.

The event will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Rowayton Community Center, 33 Highland Ave., Rowayton. Tickets are available here for $20, and WOSA will donate all proceeds to Shakespeare on the Sound.

“From BBQ to Braai” was created to promote a better understanding of South African wine through the braai (pronounced BRY), a casual outdoor gathering where friends and family converge to cook meats and seafood over a charcoal fire.

South African Braai-Master Hugo Uys will combine New England and South African culinary traditions and customs to create Saturday’s menu and offer an educational cultural event featuring great food and South African wine.

"WOSA established the model of a braai integrated with local BBQ cuisine in summer 2013 to introduce Americans, not only to South African wine, but to South African food and culture, in a way they could easily relate to," said Annette Badenhorst, U.S. market manager for WOSA. “We are proud to team up with Shakespeare on the Sound in bringing South African cuisine to the New England area.”

Other cities included in the 2014 tour include Asheville, Austin, Minneapolis, and Chicago.

Now in its 18th season, Shakespeare on the Sound has established itself as one of the most popular summer theater companies on the East Coast, drawing large audiences to each performance in the unique under-the-stars settings of its waterfront venues.
