Take A Trot Through The Zoo As Beardsley Hosts First-Ever 5K

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The first-ever 5K with a course through the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport will be held Sunday, April 2.

A 5K race course goes through the Beardsley Zoo where kids get free passes April 2. The fundraiser supports charitable work of the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County. Patricia Boyd is the group's president.

Kids will have free admission to the zoo that day as well.

All age and ability runners and walkers are welcome to register now for the fundraiser. There will be a kids fun and snacks will be provided. The course ends at the zoo's carousel.

The 5K begins at 9 a.m. at the zoo, 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport.

It is a fundraiser for Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County to support: Leaguers Building Readers, The Center for Family Justice, the Bridgeport YMCA, Norma Pfriem Urban Outreach Cook & Feed for Friends in Need and the Beardsley Zoo.

"We have had a wonderful relationship with the zoo since the 1960's and we are grateful to them for their support,” said JLEFC President Patricia Boyd. 

All runners get a free pass to the zoo upon completion of the race. 

The Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County supports Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Newtown, Redding, Shelton, Southport, Stratford, Trumbull, Weston, and Westport. It is an organization of women committed to improving communities.
