DARIEN, Conn. -- The Tree Conservancy of Darien will show off entries in its fourth annual photo contest, "Celebration of Trees," with a free cocktail reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the Darien Nature Center.

Darien artist Elizabeth Higgins has donated artwork to the silent auction, and Palmers Market has sponsored the reception, which is open to all. Wineport of Darien has donated wines for the evening, and Two Roads Brewery of Stratford has donated the beer.

All proceeds from the photo contest and reception will go toward the care and planting of trees in Darien.

Higgins was born in Toronto and has an master of fine arts degree in painting from the Parson’s School of Design in Manhattan. She has shown her art work at the Prince Street Gallery in SoHo, N.Y., where she again will exhibit her work this spring.

People who live, work or volunteer in Darien were able to enter the photo contest. All photos were taken within the past two years and can be black and white or color.

The conservancy expanded the scope of this year’s contest, by allowing photos of trees from outside of Darien to be submitted and by adding a Fairfield County professional category.

Contestants can offer their photographs for sale, with 30 percent of the sale price going to the conservancy. Photos will be displayed at the Darien Nature Center from March 4 to 25.

Established in 2010, the conservancy has planted more than 300 trees in Darien. For more information or to donate, visit treeconservancyofdarien.org or e-mail info@treeconservancyofdarien.org.
