Iris Folding Card Workshop: Valentine Heart Cards will take place Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 9:30 a.m. JoAn Jacobs is again hosting her popular Iris Folding Card workshop. The theme for the workshop is Valentine hearts. These beautiful works of art will be cherished by your Valentine. Space is limited, sign up by calling 203-656-7490.
"The Japanese Sword - Soul of the Samurai," presented by Fred Chang, will be on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 12:30 p.m. Tracing its origins to one thousand years ago, the Japanese sword is a true masterpiece among edged weaponry. You will see the complete process in how a master swordsmith crafts a "samurai" sword. This film has never been aired on TV or to the public. There will be a short talk and Q&A after the showing.
Art Gottlieb, LCSW, presents "Trench Warfare" on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 12:30 p.m. Gottlieb will be here for the second presentation in a series commemorating the 100-year anniversary of World War I. The presentation will focus on the trench warfare that became the haunting image of the “War to End all Wars.” The introduction of weapons such as poison gas, the machine gun and tanks were to define existence of the surreal, barbed wired “No-Man’s Land” existing between the trenches. Gottlieb will present a program rich with information as well as a PowerPoint slide show.
Ask the Nurse Lunch and Learn, sponsored by RVNA, will be on Monday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. with a complimentary lunch at noon. Mary Ellen Porrata, MSN, APRN with the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, will lead an education health program. Porrata will discuss all aspects of general health questions and will be available to answer any questions you may have.
