Upcoming Events At The Darien Senior Center

DARIEN, Conn. - Here are the upcoming events at the Darien Senior Activities Center, 30 Edgerton St.

CT Pharmacy Presents: Skin Care and Sun Protection, Wednesday, June 11 at 12:30 p.m.: Americans spend billions of dollars each year on skin care products that promise to erase wrinkles, lighten age spots, and eliminate itching, flaking, or redness. But the simplest and cheapest way to keep your skin healthy and young-looking is to stay out of the sun. Sunlight is a major cause of the skin changes we think of as aging. Many older adults also think that there’s no point in protecting themselves since the damage has been done, but it’s never too late to help prevent further damage and lower your skin cancer risk. The odds of developing skin cancer rise as you age; in fact, 40 percent to 50 percent of Americans who live to age 65 will have at least one skin cancer. CT Pharmacy will present ways to protect senior skin from the damage of the sun as well as ways to keep skin healthy.

Gathering With Cookie Martini – 365 Words Of Wisdom on Thursday, June 12 at 12:30 p.m.: Cookie will once again put a smile on your face with 365 words of wisdom. One wise word a day can feed your soul and lift your spirit. Join Cookie for what promises to be an uplifting program.

Walgreens Pharmacy: Cholesterol and Blood Pressure on Monday, June 16, at 12:30 p.m.:Ashi, the pharmacist from Walgreens Pharmacy, will be here to present a program on Cholesterol and Blood pressure. High blood pressure and high cholesterol are often linked. When the arteries become hardened and narrowed with cholesterol plaque and calcium, the heart has to strain much harder to pump blood through them. As a result, blood pressure becomes abnormally high. Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women. This is sure to be an informative program.
