DARIEN, Conn. – Among the events in Darien this week are the annual Sidewalk Sales and Family Fun Days and Pitchapalooza at the Darien Library, where you can pitch your book ideas to a panel of judges. Here’s what’s happening this week:

Monday, July 9

Weighing the Facts about Weight Control : 11 a.m. Barbara Schmidt, a lifestyle specialist at Norwalk Hospital, will discuss healthy eating, changing habits and portion control. Darien Senior Center, 30 Edgerton St.

Ukulele Class : 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Uncle Zac will begin ukulele instructions in a range of styles and materials. Cost of the class is $3. Darien Senior Center, 30 Edgerton St.

Fresh Air Fund : 3 p.m. The Fresh Air Fund will be welcoming children from New York City, who will be spending two weeks with host families in Darien, Norwalk and Ridgefield. Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road.

Thursday, July 12

Darien Sidewalk Sales and Family Fun Days : All day. The Darien Chamber of Commerce’s annual Sidewalk Sale kicks off, with merchants from all over town participating. Along the Post Road and at the Goodwives and Noroton Heights shopping centers.

Pitchapalooza : 7 p.m. It’s “American Idol” for books. Literary agent Arielle Eckstut and author David Henry Sterry will listen and judge pitches for book ideas. Winners will receive a half-hour consultation with Eckstut and Sterry. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.

Friday, July 13

Sidewalk Sales : All Day. The Darien Chamber of Commerce’s Sidewalk Sales event continues. Along the Post Road and at the Goodwives and Noroton Heights shopping centers.

“Wanderlust” screening : 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The Darien Library hosts two screenings of “Wanderlust.” This comedy stars Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston as a couple who leave Manhattan and join a commune. Rated R. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.
