What's Happening In Darien This Weekend

DARIEN, Conn. – This weekend Darien’s elected officials will pay tribute to veterans of World War II with a ceremony at Atria Darien. Here is what’s happening this weekend.

Friday, August 10

Darien Summer Nights : 6 to 9 p.m. The Afterthoughts, a band that grew out of a faculty band at Darien High School, will play a mix of rock, rhythm and blues, and soul at this weekly free concert. Grove Street Plaza.

“Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” screening : 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The library hosts two showings of “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.” This film stars Ewan McGregor and tells the story of Britain’s leading fishing expert, who is approached to bring fly-fishing to the desert. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.

Saturday, August 11

Family Film : 1 p.m. Bring the kids for a screening of “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale.” This film stars Richard Gere as a college professor who bonds with an abandoned dog he takes into his home. Darien Library, 1441 Post Road.

Sunday, August 12

World War II Ceremony : 2 p.m. U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, state Sens. Bob Duff and Carlo Leone, state Rep. Terrie Woods and First Selectman Jayme Stevenson will pay tribute to veterans of World War II. Atria Darien, 50 Ledge Road.

Sunday Runday : 4 p.m. Take part in either a 3-mile or a 1.5-mile run, with discounted food and drinks at Darien Social afterward. First 50 registrants get a free T-shirt. Darien Social, 10 Center St.
