DARIEN, Conn. – The YWCA Darien/Norwalk will host a forum on Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Darien Library
The presentation includes information on diagnosis and treatment, support and advocacy for patients, and prevention of the disease.
Diagnosis is difficult and treatment often does not treat the root of the problem, as Lyme disease is caused by a variety of tick-borne illnesses. How do you diagnose Lyme and once it is diagnosed, what is the treatment? Dr. Zijad Sabovic, who is at the forefront of Lyme diagnosis and prevention, will address these questions and more.
Mimi Markham, who was diagnosed at the age of 14, will be on hand to discuss support for patients and their families. Prevention is key when fighting Lyme disease. Jennifer Reed, community coordinator with BLAST, a program to raise awareness of the most effective Lyme disease prevention practices, will provide concrete strategies and up-to-date information to do just that.
