DARIEN, Conn. -- "The key to lifelong happiness is you have to build it from the inside," says Tracy Fox, a strategic life coach from Darien and a bestselling author of two books on the secrets of staying happy.
"You build yourself into the person you need to be and that aligns with happiness," Fox told Daily Voice.
The Darien resident will reveal more Thursday evening, March 23 at Barrett Bookstore for a launch celebration of her books, "Happy Self — A Three-Step Strategy to Elevate Your Inner Game" and "Happy Marriage — A 10 Step Solution to Happily Ever After."
In "Happy Self," Fox talks about her three-step strategy to finding happiness.
"You have to have core life principles to know and love yourself and to connect to God, your higher power," she said.
She tells her coaching clients, "You can't live horizontally."
"But most people do. They get up in the morning and react to things. If they get a promotion, they feel good. If they don't, they feel bad," Fox said. "They hear of someone's good news, they feel good. If something bad happens, they feel bad. And they live their life that way. You have to live vertically."
While the book took about a month to write, it carries the principles that have been developing in her life's work, said Fox.
When people build their life and "live from the inside out," it doesn't matter what happens to them, they're not affected by the circumstances, Fox said.
She delivers that message in her life coaching work, which she does in person and by phone.
"I've been doing that for 10 years. I'm extremely good at it because I can cut right to the chase," said Fox, who has a certificate in coaching from New York University.
Anxiety and feeling "stuck" are the main reasons people call her.
"I get people turned around in six to 12 weeks. I'm not just working on a present problem," Fox said. "I'm setting them up with the tools for life."
Fox also published the "Having A Heart For God Devotional in 2014," which has gone on to sell thousands of copies.
“Tracy has a unique intuitive ability to problem solve, She is a hidden gem," says a testimonial from someone on her website.
The public is invited to the book launch party Thursday at 7 p.m. at Barrett Bookstore, 314 Heights Road, Darien.
"Come have a glass of wine and chocolate. Let's talk about happiness," she said.
