Danbury's WestConn Boasts Best Social Mobility Ranking In State

DANBURY, Conn. -- Danbury's Western Connecticut State University was recently ranked first in Connecticut and 11th nationally in a new social mobility index created by PayScale and CollegeNet to determine how higher education helps students with economic and social advancement.

The SMI ranked colleges and universities nationwide on the following criteria:

  • Tuition
  • Economic background
  • Graduation Rate
  • Early Career Salary
  • Endowment

WestConn boasted a fairly low tuition at only $8,893 per year. It also helps students advance with a median early career salary of over $43,000. It was the only school to make the Top 100. 

The next school in Connecticut to make the list is the University of Connecticut in Storrs, which was ranked 143. 

Other Connecticut schools to make the list include: 

  • Southern Connecticut State University (No. 195), 
  • University of Hartford West Hartford (No. 232), 
  • Sacred Heart University in Fairfield (No. 323), 
  • Connecticut College (No. 383), 
  • Fairfield University (No. 396), 
  • Wesleyan University (No. 404), 
  • Yale University (No. 404), 
  • Quinnipiac University  (No. 488) and 
  • Trinity College (No. 526).
