The photo contest is part of the Tree Conservancy's mission of raising awareness of the value of trees in the community. All submitted entries for the contest will be on display at the Darien Nature Center until April 10. Darien artists Carol Barr Matton, Donna Collins, Mary Morant, Lisa Thoren and Meg Tweedy all donated pieces for the silent auction at the opening reception. The judges for the contest are Nancy McTague and Bill Taufic.

In addition to educating the community on trees and their care, the Tree Conservancy of Darien is dedicated to identifying and revitalizing significant heritage trees in town and maintaining stewardship programs for the care of existing trees. Since its inception in 2010, the Tree Conservancy has planted more than 85 trees in Darien, including traffic islands near Interstate 95 exits, along Ledge Road, at the entrance to Weed Beach and at the Darien train station. It has also donated more than 80 trees for planting at various locations, including at all seven public schools.
