Five McArthur brothers - yes, that's five brothers - and the Spinelli Mastrone triplets, and again, - yes, that's triplets - are performing in the show at the Stamford-based theater.
“We’ve had many families involved here over the years,” said Lou Ursone, Curtain Call executive director. “But never anything like this,” referring to the five McArthur brothers and three Spinelli Mastrone triplets.
Parents and siblings often get involved in community theater productions after one member of the family initially takes the plunge. “It’s great to see mothers and fathers working alongside their kids when we’re building and painting scenery,” Ursone said.
"The Music Man" opened on Wednesday and continues Aug. 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
“In our production of 'Much Ado About Nothing,' we had mother, father and the two children of the Yudain family onstage, but I don’t think The Kweskin stage has ever been graced by five brothers or a set of triplets,” Ursone added.
In the case of the Spinelli Mastrone family, mother Ramona, a professional stage manager, performed and crewed many shows back in the early days of The Sterling Barn (now The Kweskin Theatre). Their father, Frank Mastrone, a Broadway veteran, has concertized in The Kweskin for many years. This is the first time the triplet sisters – Ava, Livia, and Franki – have performed together in a Curtain Call production.
The McArthurs have also had previous involvement at Curtain Call, but, again, this is the first time Daniel, Justin, Kyle, Matthew, and Michael have performed together. Michael was seen earlier this year in "Les Miserables" as The Gavrocche. Two other sibling pairs are also on stage this year: Rachel and Sarah Kadlick from Norwalk and Claire and Nancy Leville from New Canaan.
This production of The Music Man features a cast of 43 with Allyn Ries, William Bruno, Maggie Carucci, Laina Ciacciarella, Kristina DeLelle, Emily DiGiacomo, Caroline Eagleton, Brendan George, Cara Grasso, Victoria Iparraguirre, Courtney Kollar, the McArthurs, Grace McEvoy, Camilla Montoya, Mary Cate Muller, Jason Nekritz, Nina Paolini-Rota, Katie Priscott, Maeve Ronan, Betsy Sachs, Talia Shapiro, Winston Sinclair, the Spinelli Mastrones, and Jessie Tarzia hailing from Stamford.
Joining the Kadlicks from Norwalk is Samuel White.
Kevin Collins and Julia Siewert are from Wilton with Andrew Restieri from Riverside and Savannah Miller from Cos Cob. Darien's Abigail Agabs, Weston's Rebecca Borowik, Westport's Meaghan Elliot, and Aidan Meachem from Ridgefield are also in the show.
Meredith Wilson’s six-time, Tony Award winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957 and is a family-friendly story.
Directing this 24th annual Summer Youth Theatre production is Meredith Walker, who is joined by Eric K. Johnston as music director, and Donna Fox as choreographer. Costume design is by Megan Latte Ormond, lighting design by Adam Lobelson, set design by Tucker Blandford, based on a design by Peter Barbieri, Jr..
