The Norwalk community had rallied to help Chris Morin, who has been active with Little League and Babe Ruth baseball over the years, after he received the devastating diagnosis back on May 25.

"It is with profound sadness to announce that our friend Chris Morin passed away suddenly," said a post at a GoFundMe launched to support his family.

"This was utterly shocking, as the village around Chris was preparing for a long and successful battle against cancer. Chris ultimately succumbed to an undetected pulmonary embolism."

His wife, Kate, thanked the many people in the Norwalk community who have supported her and their two teenage children.

"Broken. Last night Chris suddenly suffered a pulmonary embolism and despite the best efforts of the EMTs and fire department he is gone," she posted on the website. "We are stunned and heartbroken. Please keep us all in your prayers as we navigate this awfulness.

"Our village has lost an amazing husband, father, son, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Hug your loved ones super tight, thank you for all the love you have shown us."

The GoFundMe campaign, started by Dean Stiles, calls for continued support for the Morin family. Launched just two weeks ago to pay medical bills, it has raised $41,709 of its $50,000 goal.
