Crowds Turn Out For YWCA Darien Events

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The Darien/Norwalk YWCA events were a success with a large turnout. The events included a spa event, a parenting event and a special event for newcomers.

More than 35 women attended this year’s kick-off event for the YWCA Darien/Norwalk Newcomers Club co-hosted by the Darien Nature Center Sept. 23.

During the YW Spa Event, 25 members of the new Inspire Club of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk enjoyed a decadent evening of massage, hairstyling, make-up application, manicures and wine and cheese Sept. 24 at the Andrew Stefanou Salon & Spa in Darien. The Inspire Club is a new YW club designed for women who find themselves single again, empty nesters or who just want to reconnect with old friends or make new ones. Planned events for this new club will include educational lectures, destination day trips, museum tours and restaurant nights out. During the YW Parent Awareness Event, Diane Hobbs, ‘Active Parenting’ instructor spoke at the first YWCA Darien/Norwalk Parent Awareness event Sept. 24 at the First Congregational Church in Darien. In her program, ‘Parenting Tools for Everyday Challenges,’ Hobbs gave advice to more than 70 attendees on minimizing conflicts with children, teaching responsibility and helping children problem solve. YW Parent Awareness is a family-focused program that provides support and education to parents and children to encourage the healthy, positive development of youth and families in Darien and surrounding areas. The Sept. 23 evening for the YW Newcomers Club Event featured wine and cheese and the art exhibit ‘Ecotone’ by YW member and former YW Newcomers Club president, Carlyle Upson. The Newcomers Club is designed to help women new to the area get to know the community, the YW, and provides a ready-made social network. The Newcomers Club also includes a coed Paddle Night, the Newcomers Book Club, and provides a specialized automated mailing list where members share information about local businesses, services, babysitting and more.
