CT Radio Host Takes Part In One Of The Craziest "Jeopardy!" Finales Ever

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — She didn’t realize her dream of winning “Jeopardy!” Tuesday, but former WPKN radio host Fran Fried can say she was part of one of the wildest finishes in the show’s history.

Tied for the lead with $12,300, Fried and competitor Carlos Nobleza Posas of Salt Lake City both wagered it all on incorrect responses to the “Asian Geography” final clue about the only country that borders both the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf.

The returning champion, Manny Abell, a Naval officer from Lacey, Wash., also answered incorrectly, but he only wagered $999 of his $1,000, meaning he won the game with $1.

For the record, the correct response would have been “What is Iran?”

Fried, who was the third-ever transgender person to compete on the show, took to Facebook after the match, thanking friends for their support. While disheartened, she said she hopes the appearance leads to bigger things.

“And I met a lot of great people in the process,” the Prospect resident wrote.

Fried auditioned for the show four times over 13 years before snagging a spot for an August taping.

The former host of WPKN’s “The Sleep Deprivation Experiment” and “Franorama,” she now hosts “Franorama 2.0” on Cygnus Radio and is a longtime writer and editor.

She recently narrated “The High School That Rocked,” a documentary about Westport’s Staples High School and the concerts it hosted with headliners The Doors, Cream and more decades ago.
