DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien Book Aid Plan is hosting a 2013 fundraising appeal this month.

The group, which is a volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to distributing free books all over the world, is holding the fundraiser to help pay for the rising international shipping costs.

"Founded in 1949 to promote international friendship through the free distribution of books, we have expanded our mission since then to include shipments to rural school districts and inner city programs here in the United States," a press release said.

"We are an enthusiastic all-volunteer group motivated by the knowledge that the books we send (donated by our neighbors) make a real difference in people’s lives."

Residents are asked to make credit card donations via PayPal on the Darien Book Aid website. To learn more about the program call 203-655-2777 or email darienbookaid@yahoo.com.
