The Darien LWV was formed in 1929 and works to encourage informed and active participation in government, increase understanding of major public policy issues and influence public policy through education and advocacy. Darien members Kiki Karpen and Enid Oresman have both served as president of the Connecticut State League of Women Voters.
This past year, the Darien LWV has hosted numerous events to promote local understanding of issues. In April, it hosted a panel of journalists from The Darien Daily Voice, the Darien Times, the Darien News, the Darien Patch and Channel 79 to discuss the role of local media. Gov. Dannel Malloy spoke at its annual luncheon in September to discuss voting issues. In October, it hosted two moderated candidates forums related to the November election, and it published its annual Voters Guide, which many use as a primary resource for local candidate information.
The Darien LWV neither supports nor opposes any political party or candidate. Membership is open to any citizen over 18, male or female. To join, click the “Join Us” button on the league’s homepage.
