DARIEN, Conn. -- Over 25 Darien YMCA Piranhas swimmers, parents and coaches joined the efforts of Wreaths Across America and placed wreaths on the graves of veterans this past Saturday.

Thanks to local collections and the generosity of an anonymous donor--a wreath can be placed on the grave of every veteran buried in Darien's Spring Grove Cemetery.

The Darien cemetary, located at 41 Hecker Ave., is one of three designated official veterans cemeteries in Connecticut; the other two are in Middletown and Rocky Hill.

Raising funds to buy the wreaths were members of Darien’s Monuments and Ceremonies Commission. They partnered with several Darien civic groups including: Good Wife’s River DAR Chapter; the Masonic Club of Darien; the VFW; the DHS Support Our Soldiers; and Scout Troops. Many Darien businesses also donated, organizers said.
