DARIEN, Conn. Darien police officers and teens are collecting smoke detectors to distribute to senior citizens. This is the second community service project of the Cops and Kids Adventures group.
Donors should bring the smoke detectors to the Depot at 25 Heights Road. No specific brand is requested. Donors are also asked to bring batteries.
Cops and Kids is a collaboration among the Darien Police Department, the Depot and a group of 19 teens. It was created to build a bond between officers and youths and let teens see police as everyday people. Together they do activities such as community service, rope courses, zip lines, bowling and pizza parties.
They will be collecting smoke detectors until Feb. 29. Any senior citizen who needs help installing the smoke detectors should call the Darien fire marshals office at 203-656-7345.
