Adding a pool to Town Hall would make an already complicated parking situation even worse, says Darien town employee Pat Gavin Alessi. Although Alessi says he would love to see a town pool, he says another location would be better.
"Especially when I go out during my lunch hour to run an errand, I come back and there's no employee parking spaces left," Alessi wrote on The Daily Darien's Facebook page Wednesday. "I feel the best place would be at DHS . The students could use it during the day for gym classes and swim team practices and at night and weekends the public would be able to use it."
Other readers were also excited by the prospect of a town swimming pool but acknowledge there certainly would be hurdles to overcome before it can happen. Tom Wilson wrote, "The usual nay-sayers and foot-draggers will object, but what a terrific asset for a town that can afford it."
Shelly Ransom "liked" Wilson's comment and believes it would be a fantastic addition to the town. Alison Collins Wright joined the conversation and said she would love a town pool, "but there are too many squeaky wheels who will object." Wright doesn't see the project happening without private funding.
Now it's your turn to join the conversation! Do you think Darien should have a town pool? Should it be at Town Hall, Darien High School or some other location? Head over to our Facebook page and let us know what you think!
