All Darien Housing Authority leaseholders, age 18 or older, who are residents of The Heights At Darien, Old Town Hall Houses, 216 West Ave., or 218 West Ave. were eligible to self-nominate for the position.

“I am very proud and glad to represent the residents of the DHA,” said Delaney. “My wish going forward is that the residents of the Heights will collectively put in place an Association, so that matters can be brought to me and the Housing Commission.”

There were five declared candidates in the contested election. Delaney had been serving as the interim tenant commissioner after the previous tenant commissioner relocated.

The election was independently administered by the Darien League of Women Voters and was headed by volunteers Nancy Cahoon, Mary Genco, and Gwen Mogenson.

Additional league volunteers monitored the voting held at the two community rooms at Old Town Hall Houses and The Heights.

Connecticut State law requires that one member of the five-member Darien Housing Authority be directly elected by tenants of the Housing Authority rather than appointed by the First Selectman. It also requires the election to be administered by an independent third party.
