DARIEN, Conn. The Darien Arts Center's Cabaret Theatre is looking for a director and music director to join its production of the off-Broadway musical "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change." Rehearsals begin in late August, and the show will run in October.
The show is a series of vignettes connected by the theme of love and relationships. It premiered at the Westside Theatre in New York in 1996 and closed in 2008 after 5,003 performances.
The vignettes are independent of each other and are made to represent the arc of a relationship. Scenes of a first date are followed by marriage, followed by scenes of child rearing. Joe DiPietro wrote the play and lyrics, and Jimmy Roberts composed the music. It was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award in 1997 for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical.
"There have been 61 wedding proposals at the show, all of which resulted in yeses!" the show's producers said. No word on how long those engagements lasted.
The show will run for two weekends, Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. at the Darien Arts Center . Those interested in applying should call the Arts Center's executive director, Amy Allen, at (203) 655-5138, or send their resume to Anne Wright at email@example.com.
