Darien Remembers Those Who Served With Memorial Day Parade And Ceremony

DARIEN, Conn. -- The Darien community came together Monday for a Memorial Day parade and ceremony to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service of their country.

The parade was led by Grand Marshal Len Hunter from the Goodwives Shopping Center on Old Kings Highway North to the corner of Post Road and Hecker Avenue, where an indoor ceremony was held in the Community Room of the Darien Library and a wreath-laying took place at Spring Grove Cemetery. 

The indoor ceremony featured Memorial Day speaker and West Point graduate Brian O'Malley, as well as a reading of the Gettysburg Address by Cadet Scout Megan Mohr. The winners of the Memorial Day essay contest also shared their winning entries, with Middlesex Middle School student Matthew Bergwall reading his essay "For Me," and Darien High School student Erin Corrigan reading her essay "Remember the Fallen."
